Governor Sarah Palin Endorses Ted Cruz for U.S. Senate

AUSTIN—Just four days before the start of early voting in the Texas Senate primary, the Ted Cruz campaign announced the endorsement of Governor Sarah Palin and her husband Todd Palin.

In response to a letter from Ted Cruz, Governor Sarah Palin wrote: “We’re proud to join conservatives in Texas and throughout the nation in supporting your campaign to become the next Senator from the Lone Star State.”

“Your conservative principles, passionate defense of our Constitution and our free market system come at a time when these cornerstones of our freedom and prosperity are under attack,” Governor Palin added. “Our shared goal isn’t just to change the majority in control of the Senate, but to assure principled conservatives like you are there to fight for us.”

Ted Cruz responded, “Governor Palin has been an inspiration to conservatives across Texas and across the Nation. She is principled and passionate and never afraid to speak truth to establishment power. I am humbled and honored to have Governor Palin’s support as we fight to restore fiscal sanity to the circus that is Washington. With Governor Palin’s support, and the support of tens of thousands of conservatives from all across Texas, we will turn our country around, rein in out-of-control spending and debt in Washington, and restore the Constitution.”

To date, the Cruz campaign has received donations from over 19,000 individuals, from over 843 Texas cities, 225 Texas counties, and all 50 States. The average donation is under $200.

In addition, the campaign has earned endorsements from many of the top conservative leaders in Texas and nationally, including: Tea Party Express, Senator Jim DeMint, Senator Rand Paul, Dr. James Dobson, Cathie Adams, George P. Bush, Gun Owners of America, Family Research Council Action PAC, FreedomWorks, Texas Home School Coalition PAC, Kelly Shackelford, David Barton, Peggy Venable, Young Conservatives of Texas, over 200 Texas Republican women leaders, and many more. In January 2011, Ted Cruz filed to run for U.S. Senate based on his proven record of fighting for conservative principles and winning on a national level. He is running for the Senate to stand up and fight to defend liberty, preserve the Constitution, and stop federal overreach.

From 2003-08, Ted served as the Solicitor General of Texas, the chief lawyer for the State before the U.S. Supreme Court and all the state and federal appellate courts. Cruz was the youngest Solicitor General in the nation, the longest serving Solicitor General in Texas, and the first Hispanic Solicitor General in Texas.

Ted has authored over 80 U.S. Supreme Court briefs and personally argued 40 oral arguments, including 9 before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Under the leadership of Attorney General Greg Abbott, Ted defended Texas values, winning repeatedly on a national level. During Ted’s service as Solicitor General, Texas achieved an unprecedented series of landmark national victories, including successfully defending:
U.S. sovereignty against the World Court in Medellin v. Texas.
The Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms;
The constitutionality of the Texas Ten Commandments monument;
The constitutionality of the words “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance;
The constitutionality of Texas Sexually Violent Predator Civil Commitment law; and
The Texas congressional redistricting plan.

Ted has been described by National Review as “a Republican star rising in Texas,” and as “a great Reaganite hope.”

The National Law Journal called him “a key voice” to whom “the [U.S. Supreme Court] Justices listen.” He was named by American Lawyer magazine as one of the 50 Best Litigators under 45 in America, by the National Law Journal as one of the 50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in America, and Texas Lawyer as one of the 25 Greatest Lawyers of the Past Quarter Century.

Ted currently serves as a Partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP in Houston, where he leads the firm’s U.S. Supreme Court and national Appellate Litigation practice. In addition, from 2004-09, he taught U.S. Supreme Court Litigation as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Texas School of Law.

Prior to serving as Solicitor General, Ted served as the Director of the Office of Policy Planning at the Federal Trade Commission, an Associate Deputy Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice, and Domestic Policy Advisor on the 2000 Bush-Cheney campaign. In addition, Ted clerked for Chief Justice William Rehnquist on the U.S. Supreme Court. He was the first Hispanic ever to have clerked for the Chief Justice of the United States.

Ted has seen first-hand that America’s bedrock principle is the pursuit of freedom and opportunity. His father came to Texas from Cuba penniless at age 18, not speaking a word of English. Cruz went on to study at Princeton where, in college debate, he was named the U.S. National Speaker of the Year and the U.S. National Team of the Year (with his partner). He also won the First Place Speaker award at both the 1992 U.S. National Debating Championship and the 1992 North American Debate Championships.

He graduated from Harvard Law School magna cum laude and served as a Primary Editor of theHarvard Law Review, an Executive Editor of the Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy, and a Founding Editor of the Harvard Latino Law Review.

Ted and his wife Heidi live in Houston, where he grew up, with their three-year-old daughter, Caroline, and their newborn daughter Catherine.
A New Generation of Leaders

The election of a president as radical as Barack Obama resoundingly demonstrated the depressing scarcity of principled conservative leaders who can communicate common-sense ideas in a way that resonates with the American people. We need to rediscover the leadership embodied by President Reagan, and the values that have kept our nation strong, including faith, family, limited government, individual responsibility, and expanding opportunity for every American. We need a new generation of leaders committed to making a difference, not simply staying in office. We need to inspire young people and old people and all people that America has always been and must continue to be a ‘shining city on a hill,’ a land of hope and opportunity built upon rule of law.
America’s Promise

When my Dad came to Austin in 1957, as a teenage immigrant from Cuba bound for the University of Texas, he spoke no English and had $100 sewn into his underwear. He worked his way through school as a dishwasher making 50 cents an hour, just as my Mom – the first person in her family ever to go to college – earned her math degree at Rice in the 1950s, working summers at Foley’s and Shell. From them, I learned that America has always been the land of opportunity, a beacon of freedom and hope for the world. They taught me the value of education and hard work and the importance of an environment that allows every American the opportunity to achieve the American dream.

This nation is a miracle of opportunity. Founded by men and women fleeing religious persecution, America has prospered for two centuries under a Constitution that constrains government and a culture that rewards entrepreneurship and free enterprise. To solve our many challenges, we need to harness the frontier mentality that defines Texans, and work tirelessly to ensure that our children enjoy the same freedom and opportunity — built on individual responsibility — that has formed the foundation of our country.

GOVERNOR SARAH AND TODD PALIN ENDORSE DEB FISCHER FOR U.S. SENATE

Lincoln, NE – Today, Senator Deb Fischer, a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Nebraska, announced that she has been endorsed by former Alaska Governor and Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin and her husband Todd Palin.

“I’m incredibly honored to receive the endorsement of Governor Sarah Palin and Todd Palin. I greatly admire their willingness to stand on conservative principle and their resolve in standing up to the political establishment,” said Senator Deb Fischer.

“Our campaign is grassroots powered and focused on conservative policy solutions that will change the course of this nation. I’m a wife, mother, rancher, small business owner, and citizen legislator, not a career politician. To change Washington, we need to send a different type of person there. That’s why I’m running for U.S. Senate.”

At the onset of the campaign, Deb Fischer shared her story, her passion and and beliefs with Governor Palin and requested her support. Below is part of Senator Fischer’s note:

I am writing to you as both a fan of your strong, conservative principles and as a fellow female Republican. I have watched your career with respect as you take on tough issues, all while raising a family and serving your great state. Your career has inspired me and so many other female politicians who believe principles should be above politics.

Yesterday, Governor Palin responded with the following note:

Deb – thank you for your note. We have been watching your race closely. Your efforts remind us of those our family put forth for Sarah’s races here in Alaska. Winning over voters through personal interactions is the way to go. People are tired of outside interests spending millions of dollars in political attack ads. We’re glad to see your grassroots efforts paying off!

We admire your conservative principles and know that you will not go to Washington to amass great wealth or power. You will go to Washington to serve the people of Nebraska, protect our Constitution and work for common sense solutions to help restore America. We are happy to support you and have asked SarahPAC to send a financial contribution to your campaign.

Good luck next Tuesday – the Palins are in your corner.

- Todd & Sarah

Sarah Palin: Todd Palin 'Went Rogue' With Newt Gingrich Endorsement

"First dude went rogue," Palin said when asked if she had been consulted prior to the endorsement. "And I respect him for doing that. Todd is all about hard hats and steel-toed boots and getting people to work."

Palin continued, "Todd obviously believes Newt Gingrich represents more of that connectivity to the working class."

Todd Palin announced on Monday that he was supporting Gingrich. The former House Speaker later tweeted that he was "honored" to receive the endorsement.

CBS NEWS

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich on Monday picked up the endorsement of Todd Palin, the husband of former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, who said the former House speaker shares qualities with his famous wife.

"Newt Gingrich is a true leader, which he has proven not only since the beginning of his campaign, but throughout his caree," Palin said in a statement. "Just like Sarah, Newt has faced many successes and challenges. Despite his consultants leaving him last summer, Newt is still standing because of his ideas and his success in the debates - not by spending millions of dollars in campaign ads. From Day One, he has focused on how we can create jobs to get Americans back to work. This is a true testament to his leadership, commitment and hard work.

Palin called himself a political independent, and said he believes Gingrich can work with both Republicans and Democrats. Palin's decision to put in a good word for Gingrich could be helpful with the tea party Republicans who catapulted Sarah Palin to political fame.

Game Changer ??? Todd Palin Endorses Newt Gingrich

ABC News’ Santina Leuci and Z. Byron Wolf report:
Sarah Palin’s husband is endorsing Newt Gingrich for president, Todd Palin told ABC News today.
But Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor and John McCain’s 2008 Republican running mate, has yet to decide “who is best able to go up against Barack Obama,” Todd Palin said.
Palin said he has not spoken to Gingrich or anyone from the former House speaker’s campaign. But he said he respects Gingrich for what he went through in the 1990s and compared that scrutiny in public life to what Sarah Palin went through during her run for the vice presidency.
Todd Palin said he believes that being in the political trenches and experiencing the highs and lows help prepare a candidate for the future and the job of president.
He did not criticize any of the other candidates and said his “hat is off to everyone” in the Republican race.
But Todd Palin did point to last summer, when a large portion of Gingrich’s staff resigned and the candidate was left, largely by himself, to run the campaign.
Gingrich’s ability to overcome the obstacle and still move up in the polls showed his ability to campaign and survive, according to Todd Palin, who said Gingrich is not one of the typical “beltway types” and that his campaign has “burst out of the political arena and touched many Americans.”
