Two passengers and one crewmember were found alive today inside the Costa Concordia cruise liner that ran aground off Italy’s Tuscan coast, as rescuers searched for about 40 people still missing. The captain has been arrested and accused of abandoning the ship.
Two French tourists and a Peruvian crewmember were confirmed dead and about 60 people were injured after the Costa Concordia hit rocks the night of Jan. 13 near the island of Giglio in the Tyrrhenian Sea. Rescue workers evacuated more than 4,000 of the 4,229 passengers and crew aboard, Italy’s Civil Protection Agency said on its website.
